Small Animal Physiotherapy

What is Small Animal Physiotherapy ?

Physiotherapy is a clinically informed treatment approach designed to maintain optimal movement, function and performance to prevent injury, as well as support post-op or injury recovery and those managing long-term conditions. Aims are to reduce inflammation, improve joint mobility and flexibility, restore normal muscle function and strength, to maintain comfort, stability and mobility.

What to Expect from a Session

Each session will begin with a static assessment, where your dogs or cats posture, weight distribution and muscular balance will be observed. A gait analysis consists of a walk/trot up as well as observing them mooch around and perform a sit/ lie down if appropriate. Palpation with joint range of motion evaluated will be performed, followed by appropriate and personalized treatment and home exercise plans. Treatment will involve manual therapy/Massage, joint mobilizations and may include electrotherapy usage to compliment the manual therapies, and prolong treatment effects.

As a physiotherapist a collaborative effort is made with other animal professionals alongside your vet to achieve the best results for your animals, including communication with Nutritionists, Chiropractors, Bowen therapists etc.
